Dr. Katy Owens, O.D.

Dr. Katy Owens O. D.

Dr. Katy Owens grew up in a bilingual Cuban-American family down the road in Crosby, Texas. Being a resident of Huffman, Dr. Owens saw the need for a new optometry clinic capable of providing the same level of professional eye care available in more populous areas and Vista Eye Center was born. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University and went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She is a licensed Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist.

Prior to establishing Vista Eye Center, Dr. Owens managed complete care for patients in the treatment of ocular disease, surgical co-management, and eye care to patients of all ages including as young as 6 months old. Her interests include treatment of dry eye and the fitting of specialty contact lenses including toric, multifocal, gas permeable, keratoconic and scleral lenses. She has participated in the city of Houston See to Succeed program since 2011 providing eye exams and glasses to school aged children in need. Dr. Owens extended her passion for optometry as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry training future optometrists in a clinical setting. She is an active member of the Harris County Optometric Society.

Dr. Owens married her husband in 2008, a Crosby local himself, and they welcomed their first child in 2018. Although they planned for a life with old dogs, becoming parents in the same year her husband became an amputee has been quite an adventure for both of them. When she is not chasing a toddler or dogs, she enjoys the “outdoors” on the patio drinking wine and eating chocolate.
